The daily changes in technology have hightened the need for special R&D facilities. These type of projects are both demanding and challenging in meeting the clients needs and expectations for a facility that will benefit there attempt to get a share of the technology market while keeping their competitors at bay.
The special design features of this type of facility starts with an envelope style. Nothing at the perimeter of the building is in contact with the finish product. With a perimeter corridor, raised floor, and a space above the ceilings, all monitored with three levels of security, motion and infrared detectors, and cameras. The highly sensitive areas are sound proof (UL rated), a layer of foil-faced drywall for walls and ceilings. All doors are sound rated with three levels of security entry. All movement is computer monitored. All mechanical and electrical systems and equipment is monitored. The facility is also equipped with a UPS system and emergency generator backup power source in the event of a power failure.
One typical challenge in a facility like this is dealing with emergency egress from a life safety standpoint, with the security level and monitoring, escape routes and site distances had to be incorporated in the design and still keep the high security level intact.
